1620. Members of a religious group who wanted to separate from the Church of England. (Around 100 people came over on the Mayflower Ship. Less than half were Pilgrims).
1630-1640. Religious group that wanted to “purify” the Church of England. 1000’s would come over from England in the following years.
Colonists governed themselves through meetings, in which most or all members of a community came together to discuss policies, laws and budgets for their community. These meetings mixed religion and politics. Leaders were usually upper church members.
