In my experience, stress is caused by self-imposed pressures
resulting from the need to work harder, get some place faster, make more
money, or get ahead. In short, stress is a symptom of mixed-up priorities.
I feel that, by putting people before machines, timetables, ambitions, and
money, I have reduced my stress-factor considerably. If work is stressing
me out, I take a friend out to lunch getting my mind off work by further
developing a friendship. I never feel the anxiety to push rudely ahead in
traffic but graciously allow people to merge in front of me. I seldom resort
to honking my horn. I never project my money worries on my children; I
give them love, not excuses. Whenever they ask for something we
cannot afford, I joke with them: "Let me go out in the back yard and pull a
few bucks off the maple tree." While stress can make people inhuman, I
strive to reduce stress by being humane.

A. I find that getting plenty of exercise, eating a proper diet, and
getting adequate rest are essential for me to overcome stress.

B. I have successfully overcome stress by arranging to be alone to

C. Whenever I sense that stress is causing me to lose sight of my
priorities, I stand back and put things into perspective.
