If our rights are "God-given" and exist in nature, then why is it inappropriate for the Supreme Court to recognize such a right when government tries to infringe upon it? In the alternative, if our rights are created through voting in the democratic process, then do they exist in nature ("God-given") or are they made up by people?
Is the Bill of Rights a list of our "God-given"/natural rights? Who says so? Is the list complete? Who decides and how?
You may consider the following statements:
(1) Senator Santorum: "The Constitution doesn’t give you rights. It gives you freedoms to protect the rights that you have by virtue of the fact that you are made in the image and likeness of God."
(2) Senator Santorum: "No God-given right to keep government out of your bedroom unless right is created by the people."
