Task 6. Is height hereditary? (30 marks) We consider how parents' heights influence a child's height in this task. (a) (5 marks) We can use linear regression to study how parents' height affect a child's height using two different approaches: Approach 1. Fit a linear regression model of the child's height against the parents heights. Approach 2. Fit two separate linear regression models of a son's height and a daughter's height against the parents' heights. Discuss which approach is more appropriate. (b) (5 marks) Fit the following linear regression models, write down the equations for the fitted models, and report their R values: daughter's height against father's height alone, daughter's height against mother's height alone, and daughter's height against both parents' heights, Which model do you think is the best? Explain your answer. (c) (5 marks) Repeat the analysis in (ii) for son's height. (d) (5 marks) Compare and contrast your best linear regression models for son's height and daughter's height.
