For each of the following situations describe the individuals under study. That is, who or what are we collecting data on?
2. The boll weevil had travelled from Central America to the United States and infested all cotton growing areas by the 1920s. After World War II, DDT was used to control boll weevil populations. Unfortunately, DDT has some very adverse environmental impacts. Entomologists want to determine if fire ants can be used to control boll weevil populations. Fire ants are introduced to 40 geographically distinct cotton growing farms. At year’s end the yield per acre is found for each of the 40 farms. (Don’t ask us what will control the fire ant populations.)
