In about a 100 words, discuss the difference between a direct democracy and a representative democracy.
WRITER
Direct democracy and representative democracy are the two types of democracy. In a representative democracy, we choose people who share our beliefs to make decisions. In a direct democracy, everyone votes directly on laws, rather than through representatives. Direct democracy works well in small groups or on specific topics, but it is difficult in large groups.
In a representative democracy, we elect representatives to make decisions on our behalf. These representatives, like our congress, form a group and make and pass laws. Representative democracy is preferable for large and complex societies because it is faster and protects people's rights without requiring them to understand all of the laws.
