Equipping a Commercial Kitchen
Developing a deeper understanding of kitchen equipment and tools will be essential if and when you own or operate your own commercial kitchen one day. It can also be incredibly helpful when working in one. For this lab, you will research the tools and equipment used in commercial kitchens in order to provide information on how to select, use, care for, and maintain these items. You will also assess your current proficiency in being able to use and maintain these items.
Start by selecting five commercial tools, three small tools, and two serving dishes used in a commercial kitchen for food preparation.
For each item selected, you will research and share the following information:
Basic description of the item
Image of the item
Operation and use of the item
Provide an example of a dish or food that would utilize this tool or equipment
How to care for and maintain this item
Any special procedures for safety or otherwise when using this item
How and why might a chef or kitchen select this item to be in the kitchen
Rate your ability and confidence to use this item properly. If your rating is low, mention what steps you can take to improve your rating.
