Go the "Sleep Topics" page of the National Sleep Foundation's web site:

http://sleepfoundation.org/sleep-topics

Scroll down to the section entitled “The Science of Sleep.” Use the following rubric as you choose one of the topics, summarize its related article, come up with a research question, and write a research-based report on a related topic.

PART 1: Choose one of the topics on the list. Read the accompanying article. Write a summary of the information contained in the article. Be sure you tell which topic you chose and cover the main ideas in some detail (at least 300 words). (30 points)

PART 2: Additional research question: Come up with a research question based on the information you have just read. What more would you like to know about this topic? (10 points)

PART 3: Do your research, using at least 5 sources. Find sources that appear to be academically serious and based on research. Take detailed notes from your sources relating to your research question. Turn in your notes with the assignment. (15 points)

PART 4: Write a report of at least 600 words that answers your research question, based on the research you conducted. (40 points)

• What were your basic findings on your topic?

• Did all of your sources agree about the topic? If your sources came to differing conclusions about your topic, that’s okay – just be sure to describe the findings in some detail and note the differences.

• What surprised you about what you learned? Explain in some detail.

• What new questions did the information raise for you? (If none, explain why not in some detail).

• What are some implications of what you learned, for you or for others? (What difference does this information make?)

PART 5: Create an informal bibliography of the sources you used (title and author OR the URL and name of website). At least 5 sources. (10 points)
