Word selection can have an impact on the recipient when presenting an engagement communication in either oral or written form. In a oral or written presentation in which the internal auditor's objective is to persuade an individual to accept the recommendations, using words with strong or emotional connotation rather than words with low connotation (Gleim 6).
1) May misfire quickly, moving the recipient away from the internal auditor's recommendation.
2) May move the recipient deliberately in the direction of the internal auditor's recommendation.
3) Will have no effect whatsoever on the recipient.
4) Will cause the recipient to accept the internal auditor's recommendations quickly with no reservations.
