Question 1
First read learning unit 9 in the study guide and then do the thesaurus construction exercises in the workbook (Tutorial letter 102).
Construct thesaurus entries from the following lists of terms:
Schools
Private schools
Teachers
School curriculum
Add references to broader, narrower, related, forbidden and preferred terms as you think necessary. Also, include examples of scope notes. Arrange your entries in alphabetical order. With regard to reciprocal entries, remember:
RT always refers to RT (related term)
BT (broader term) always refers to NT (narrower term)
NT always refers to BT
U (use) always refers to UF (used for)
(U prohibits further use of the term, and UF refers to the preferred term)
Please note that it is not a thesaurus if you only create a BT, RT, NT, SN, U and UF for each of the five terms. You will have to add additional terms to show the relationships between terms and to add reciprocal entries. Also create ONE thesaurus, using all five terms as a starting point. Your thesaurus must include more terms than the ones given. (15 marks)
NB: No marks will be given if you do not include valid reciprocal entries in your thesaurus.
