B. Sin plays a large role in the novel. We see the representation of sin through John's forbidden romance with Alejandra. We see sin is punished through the conflicts and suffering that they both experience both externally and internally. It can be inferred throughout the novel that one cannot escape their sins although one may try. Though the novel does contain the concepts of forgiveness and redemption of sins.
