Glycolsis takes place in the cytosol of the cells.  This happens when sugar is split for glucose.  During this process glucose is transformed through a process that pyruvic acids as well as lactic acids that comes out as a form of energy.

Glycolysis often occurs within the cytosol of the cell. The cytosol is the liquid found in cells responsible for its intracellular fluid. Glycolysis is an important function within the cell that converts glucose into pyruvate which then forms Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) and NADH that are both responsible in powering the cell’s numerous chemical processes.
