There are two major post cold war world security threats

One is the development of nuclear weaponry. Although the cold war was all about the nuclear weapons of the United States and the Soviet Union, nowadays they are not the problem but rather new countries which have developed a nuclear program in the meantime as a bargaining chip. Many of these newly nuclearized countries are considered a security threat by most of the world.

Another threat is international terrorism. In the 21st century terrorism became a big issue and most countries in the world have gathered around combating the threat because of the high number of terrorist attacks worldwide since the 9/11 attack in the United States. This caused a lot of new wars and high international tensions between various countries in the world.
