In 2005, the median annual income of high school dropouts was about $6,000 less than the median annual income of high school graduates. If the high school dropout gets paid $8 an hour, how many extra hours does the dropout have to work in order to make up this $6,000?

Hourly pay of the dropout = $8
Assume he have to work for x hours to make $6000. So we can write the equation as:

8x = 6000
⇒ x = 750 hours

This means, the high school dropout will have to work 750 hours more to make up the $6000 income.
