If you have the following point at the origin:
A(0,0)
Where x=0 and y=0
and you translate it 2 units right and 5 units down on the coordinate plane, you have that the new coordinates of that point, which we will call A', is:
x'=0+2=2
y'=0-5=-5
A'(2,-5)
