The Persian Gulf War was a result of Iraq, under the leadership of Saddam Hussein, invading the neighboring country of Kuwait. The United States and United Nations saw this as an act of aggression by Iraq. So both the United Nations and the US sent troops. These two combined forces easily defeated the Iraqi army.
