PLZ HELP~!

1. Which material(s) or shapes and colors were used to represent the phosphate-sugar backbone in your model of the DNA molecule?

2. Which material(s) or shapes and colors were used to represent the bases in your model of the DNA molecule?

3. What are the steps in DNA replication?

4. What would be the complementary sequence of nucleotides for the following DNA sequence: GCTAATTGCATCCGA?

5. How does the replication process ensure that new DNA molecule is identical to the original (that there are no mutations)?

6. What would you need to do to make the length of your model DNA molecule more accurately represent the length of a real DNA molecule?

Respuesta :

1 and 2- You can use any moldable material (marshmallow or gummies) and any color you want, you need a least 6 colors (one for desoxyribose, one for phosphate, and one for each base)
3- There are 3 main steps in DNA replication:
Initiation: The DNA polymerase will attach to the DNA. the two strands of DNA will be separated and a replication fork will be formed
elongation: The DNA polymerase will put the appropriate nucleotide in front of each nucleotide of the parental strand DNA (A with T and G with C) while the replication fork is advancing.
Termination: The DNA polymerase will be separated from the DNA and the replication fork will be closed.

4- The complementary sequence of GCTAATTGCATCCGA is:
GCTAATTGCATCCGA
CGATTAACGTAGGCT

5- The DNA polymerase ensure that no mistakes will be done in DNA replication by its proofreading activity, it means that the enzyme will check twice if the right nucleotide were put.

6- The largest scale you use, the more accurate it will be. to be reasonable, try to make it approximately 6 feet in length.
