​A short necklace has 32 gold beads and 8 black beads. A long necklace has a total of 60 beads. Both necklaces have the same ratio of gold beads to black beads. ​How many black beads are on the long necklace?

Let x = number of black beads

8/40 = x/60 
cross multiply and solve for x
40x=480, x = 12

to check: 12 black beads --> 60 - 12 = 48 gold
48/12 = 4

for the short necklace, 32gold/8 black = 4
