Judge Sotomayor is an American lawyer and lawyer who is a quasi-judge of the US Supreme Court. She was nominated by President Barack Obama on May 26, 2009 and has been in office since August 8, 2009. Sotomayor was born to parents Puerto Rico in the Bronx, New York City. Her father died when she was nine and was later raised by her mother. Sot Mayor graduated from Princeton University with honors in 1976, she received her PhD in Law from Yale Law School in 1979, and she was the editor of the Yale Law Journal. She served as assistant district attorney for four and a half years in New York before she entered her private practice in 1984. She has played an active role on the board of directors of the Puerto Rico Legal and Defense Education Fund, the New York State Mortgage Agency, and the New York City Campaign Finance Committee.
