Jan owns a coffee shop. She is planning to hire Michael as a part time employee at $8.50 per hour. She will also contribute $20 a week to a bonus fund, to be paid at a later date. Michael cannot work more than 35 hours a week. How much will it cost Jan to hire Michael during his first 2 - week pay period? Write an equation for the problem then use the equation to answer the question.

Step 1 : 8.50 x 35
Step 2 : 297.5 x 2
Step 3 : there 2 weeks so she will set aside 40$
Step 4 : add 595 to 40
ANSWER : 635$

2(35x8.5) + 2(20) = 635 But if the bonus is paid later then for the first 2 weeks would be 545.Just the first part. 2(35x8.5) = $595
