The Siege of Acre of 1799 was a French siege led by Napoleon.The siege was unsuccessful. It was Napoleons first strategic defeat. Three years earlier he lost in the Battle of Bassano. Acre was a sight of significant strategic importance due to its location. After the loss of the French fleet at the Battle of Nile Napoleon decided to continue his war with the ottomans. This caused him to push in on the Siege of Acre for yet another lost battle.
