I think it is (C). During the Middle Ages, people did not have much knowledge about things other than the church and God. They also did not have any writing utensils to record the information they knew. However, woodblock printing changed this. People could now write down information and record sheets, which posterity could find. This knowledge was preserved well and spread far and wide.
