They were both revolutionary groups however, the Viet Minh emerged from the North and then faded by the time the Americans became involved in Vietnam. The Vietcong emerged from the South and played an incredibly large role in fighting against the US. The Viet Minh were helpful in the forcing of French troops to withdraw from Vietnam. The Viet Cong launched ambushes and assaults against the Us and South Vietnamese troops. Basically, the Viet Minh was both anti-French and Chinese and would later be developed into the People’s Army of Vietnam while the Viet Cong was North Vietnam’s way of protesting the presence of the Americans in place of the French.
