The IV or intravenous steroids are recommended to cure an attack of an acute multiple sclerosis, also called relapse or exacerbation. They are usually administered daily for three to five days. The steroids like methylprednisolone (Solu-Medrol) has an application to hasten the recovery from the relapse.
However, the use of IV steroids can also bring some side-effects along with it. Thus, the nurse should also look for certain findings like stomach irritation like heartburn and indigestion, rapid heartbeat, flushing of the neck, face, or chest, mood fluctuations, insomnia, nausea, and other symptoms.
