George Sperling created this experiment to demnostrate what he called Iconic memory. This procedure demonstrated that although iconic memory can store the whole information, this tends to fade away rather rapidly, not allowing the person to retain all of it. We are able to retain information, but are unable to retain it long enough to make the recall.
