EXPLANATION:
Diction can be a “tool” to differentiate good writing and bad writing. This choice of words can separate good writing from the bad one. Good writing has good diction. It contains an accurate and right choice of words. Good writing owns appropriate words which are suitable for the context used. Good writing also has a good and appropriate choice of words which are easily understood by the readers.
There are four types of diction. They are:
• Formal diction
Formal words which are used in a formal condition or situation such as presentations, press conference, and other formal occasions.
• Informal diction
Informal words which are used in informal situation and conversation such as talking with friends and writing to a best friend.
• Colloquial diction
Common words which are used in daily communication, conversation, and occasion which might be different from one region or community to the others.
• Slang diction
Slang words which are newly coined or impolite used to talk or communicate which someone who is very close, such as siblings or friends.
Diction is not only used in daily communications. It is also used in literary works. Writers choose specific diction in his literary works to convey and create a certain tone, atmosphere, and mood to the readers. A poetic diction in a literary work usually is marked by the use of rhyming words, figures of speech, and other devices.
