An elaboration is any form of the addition of information, illustration or detail to a piece of work, statement, idea, speech, etc. When you editorialize, you also add information to another idea, more specifically, you introduce a piece of subjective information to an objective statement or to the reporting of facts.

This is sometimes common in journalism when reporters interview a person and add details or opinions to the actual words and opinions of the interviewed.
