Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) is produced by the pituitary gland in the brain. In females, it acts on the ovaries by stimulating them to produce eggs.

The anterior pituitary gland secretes this hormone into portal system in the pituitary. This hormone travels through the blood stream to the target cells in the ovaries of females. It then binds to receptor cells on the plasma membrane of the target cell.
