That process is called neurotransmition, or synapse. The impulse is the sending of information which is done by the neurotransmitters in a neuron and is recieved by the neuro-receptors in another neuron.
Hope it helped,

Impulses are given off at the end as a passage from a ending dendrite and the starting axon terminal, it is done for transmitting the required messages or Impulses projecting from one end to the other. This is done solely for transmission of messages from the first terminal, second, and so on, to maintain the passage for faster neuronal travel in the body's Nerves.
To explain this like a child's intuitive imagination; Synapse is the middle area or space sandwiched between two terminals, it gives of electrical 'Information" and controls the order given by one terminal, it has the function of forming passages more commonly in a dendrite, the main part of the cell body surrounded by cyton, again into a terminal terminating into the axon, etc.
It is also serving a part of enhancing the memory of one Human.
Hope this helps.
