People who read Upton Sinclair's novel "The Jungle" were shocked at the conditions in a meat packaging plan because the way unskilled workers slaughtered, packaged and processed chicken, pigs and cows in the most unhealthy, dark and precarious conditions.
Livestock workers were inside dark, hot rooms, where floors were covered by blood, foul water, and scrape of meat.
The inhuman conditions were only part of the problem, Workers were paid very low salaries and the safety conditions were minimun.
This novel was funded with private money in order to be published because non-mayor publishers wanted to publish it due to its controversial topics.
