One of the devices you can use in this example is in medias res. A work that begins in medias res is a work that starts in the middle of the plot. This means that the work skips the exposition section, and the missing details are told in various other ways throughout the work.
In this example, we would skip the section that describes Rapunzel's parents and her birth and childhood. Instead, the story would open with Rapunzel letting down her hair.
In order to fill in the details, we could use another device, such as flashback. For example, we could follow the enchantress and show her past memories, particularly those that relate to Rapunzel and her family. In this way, we would be able to explain why Rapunzel is locked in the tower and what the relationship between the two women is.
