There are two types of penalties that will likely result from a knowing, willful, and reckless violation of HAZMAT regulations.

They are fines and jail time.

A person should expect a hefty fine and will likely face five years imprisonment.

If the violation causes a death, then the person will likely face ten years for the HAZMAT violation alone. That is, they will also likely face jail time for the death as well.

If someone is hurt, a person will also face civil suits from hurt party of that person's family if they are killed. These are usually quite expensive.
