After the II war, the African Nationalism emerged late 1940s and early 1950s because three main reasons: The first one was that nearly two million African soldiers who were part of the II war (1939-1945) were discontent after coming back to the colonial states to be treated as slaves. The second reason was that Kwame Nkrumah father of the Pan Africanism, influenced the African Nationalist leaders against the colonial rules to reach freedom and finally the third reason was to maintain the unity among them after the rejection of colonies which oppressed African Nationalist.
The three reasons for the growth of African nationalism were:
- Black people all over the world felt the need to unite over the oppression that they faced world wide.
- The need to rise above colonialism.
- The suffering and dependence of black people world wide.
African nationalism can be described as the belief that all black people of African decent had similar goals and objectives. Therefore they had the need to unite.
At the time black people were mostly held under colonial rule. They were discriminated on world wide and had no say on their resources.
The movement is born out of the belief that it would lead to the progress of Africans economically, socially and politically.
