1.) You have to get rid of everything but x. So let's get rid of the four by multiplying. 7 (4-x) = -14 is equivalent to 28 -7x = -14.
2.) Now, let's get rid of 28, by subtracting it from both sides. (28-28) -7x = -14 -28.
-7x = -42
3.) All that's left to do is to isolate the variable, x, by getting rid of -7. To do so, divide both sides by -7. -7 ÷ -7 = -42 ÷ -7
x= 6.
4.) X=6
