Solution:- methane molecule has one carbon and four hydrogen atoms, carbon has 4 valence electrons and hydrogen has 1 valence electrons. So, total valence electrons for methane = 4+4(1) = 8
Carbon is the central atom and the four H atoms are bonded to it via single bonds. C uses all it's four valence electrons in bonding. Since total eight electrons are in bonding, the octet of carbon is complete and hence there are no lone pairs.
