Describe the reasons the General Assembly was motivated to create slave codes, and explain how this document provides evidence of the creation of a race-based class society in the colony

Respuesta :

It was fear of rebellion what led each colony of white settlers to pass a series of laws restricting slaves' behaviors, known as the slave codes, which defined the status of slaves and the rights and responsibilities of slave owners.

In every slave code, skin color was fundamental, any amount of African heritage established the race of a person as black, with little regard as to whether the person was slave or free.

Answer:

The General Assembly was motivated out fear of slavery rebellion which led each Southern colony of white settlers to pass a series of laws restricting slaves' behaviors, known as the slave codes, which placed various limits on the 'basic' human rights of slaves and kept them from revolting against their owner. Generally, slaves were shipped from Africa and auctioned in the Southern colonies to perform intensive labors in plantations; slave code was based on 'race'. The code defined Africans as slaves and the children of them to, also, be slaves for life. Consequently, a 'race-based' society developed in the colonies which also led to many cases of 'free slaves' being discriminated based on their skin color.
