Nick Carraway is a young man who considers himself nonjudgemental and tolerant, something he learned from his father, but the truth is he sees himself as somewhat morally superior to most people. Because of his way of thinking, when he moves to New York he has a lot of negative perceptions and expectations. His expectations of what he'll encounter are challenged when he meets Gatsby, his host. Gatsby seems eager to make Nick like him, and is charming and welcoming. Nick can't help but admire him.
