Answer: Initially, Mexico recruited white settlers (Anglos/Texians) to become loyal TX citizens; Farmers were drawn to rich new cotton land selling for a few cents an acre; some were wealthy planters that brought large number of slaves with them when Mexico was prohibiting slave importation; settlers lusted for new western land and TX was a accessible Mexican borderland
