i think that the two main causes in the Yangtze river sewage and industrial waste dumping.  Apparently the river has gotten more polluted every year due to the dumping of waste contamidating the water.

china has major population n economic growth. population growth leads to more people. more people means more flushing of toilets which creates more sewage. that leads to more water pollution.

economic growth means more factory. more factory means more industrial discharge. sumtime the factories even discharge wastewater directly into river which causes really bad water pollution.
