Maria experiences such intense emotions as she is facing a sharp transition from childhood to maturity in which she is shock by this change and seems to fear the unknown. I have not felt like this because I am not extreme.

Maria recovers from her bad mood by slowly adapting and talking to someone in which is something i can do when I feel like this.

Maria experiences intense emotions due to the changes from childhood age to maturity age. She can get recovered from her bad mood by diverting her mind.

Maria was the main character in the story written by Gary Soto.

The intense emotions are experienced by Maria as she proceeds toward a new phase of age, that is, from childhood age to adolescence or teenager. She can be recovered herself from the bad moods by keeping herself engaged in any work or by talking or describing her feelings to someone.  

Therefore, the feeling of intense emotions can be felt whenever a person goes into the age of maturity from his/ her childhood.
