One place to look would be recent big changes in Illinois law including: waiting period for purchasing guns, marijuana laws, rear-facing car seat regulations, hunting rules, laws about rescuing endangered pets, who is exempt from serving on jury duty, officer-involved shooting, healthcare, dual-credit courses for high-schoolers, and human trafficking. These are just a few examples of recent 2019 changes to Illinois laws. Pick one, and then write about it including each element of a bill:

  • Bill number (HB# for the house or SB# for the senate)
  • Title
  • Preamble (introduce the issues)
  • Clauses (the body of the bill where you break down each issue and say what you're going to do about it, describe how it will affect current laws, etc)
  • Summary - closing argument
