Organisms compete for food and results of competition could be a lowered amount of animals in a species or in drastic cases, extinction. The symbiosis between a parasite and it's host is parasitism and it's because the host is being harmed by the parasite, but the parasite is benefiting because it is drinking or feeding from its host.
