The term semantics refers to a field of linguistics which concentrates on meaning in language forms. It is the study of the relationship among words, symbols, signs, and phrases in order to understand what they are saying. It is the opposite of syntax which mainly focuses on the arrangement of words and phrases to create a sound sentence or command.
