          I'm guessing the article is the one referenced in the top left corner?   Anyway, it's probably rather clear that the connection is peer pressure. Vapes are still drugs, though some juices don't have added nicotine or anything inherently addictive or as demonized as nicotine. The poem's talking about the poet's experiences as a child with peer pressure and how she struggled with fitting in. Sometimes those situations can escalate to more than petty things and turn into drug use.
