Ezra Pound was born in Idaho, USA, on October 30, 1885. He belonged to the "Lost Generation", fought tirelessly to rescue ancient poetry by providing a modern conception. He was an unconditional follower of Mussolini, the fascio and declared anti-Semitic. At the end of World War II, he was tried in the United States accused of treason. Thanks to the intercession of some friends of the world of culture, he managed to be declared insane, which saved him from being sentenced to death and was admitted to St. Elizabeth's Hospital, where he was held for twelve years, during this seclusion. He continued writing «Cantares».
In 1958 he returned to Europe and in Italy he lived until he died in 1972. Due to his ideals, he was harshly criticized, but we must not forget his central role in the poetic revolution of his time, he was one of the first to successfully write the free verse in long poems. «Cantares» (The Cantos), serving as a reference for Allen Ginsberg and with him the whole «Beat Generation»; a good number of critics think that all the English experimental poets of the early twentieth century are indebted to him. He died in Venice, Italy, on November 1, 1972.
