During the period of 1800 in America, the country was divided into southern and northern regions. The south were majorly into agriculture and the major crop grown then was cotton. The economy of the south was flourishing then because of the revenues they got from exportation of cotton. These workers carried out different duties and they are paid according to their contributions to the production process. The southern region of America on the other hand relied heavily on slave workers for carrying out work on their agricultural plantations. These slaves are considered to be properties of the farmers, thus, they were not paid for their efforts and their welfare is usually of no importance to their owners.
