This loss happens due to damaged hair cells (sensory cells) in the cochlea and are permanent. It is also known as nerve deafness. It can be mild, moderate or severe based on the damage.
Treatment:
In this loss, the affected person can be helped with hearing aids or implants in the middle ear. In some severe cases, cochlear implant is the solution.
Conductive hearing loss:
This loss results in prevention of sound being conducted to the inner ear. It may happen if there is any problem in the outer or inner ear and it is temporary.
Treatment:
In this loss, the affected person can be helped with medication or surgery.
If an individual has severe sensorineural or conductive hearing loss, surgery will be the best way to correct the hearing loss.
Conductive hearing loss is a hearing loss that occurs when an individual has problems with the eardrum, middle ear, or ear canal. The causes include:
- Perforated eardrum.
- Infection in the ear canal.
- Fluid in the middle ear and this can be gotten from colds.
- Exposure to loud noise, etc.
It should be noted that some of the treatments for sensorineural or conductive hearing loss include:
- Use of antifungal medications or antibiotics.
- Use of hearing aids or implants.
- In a severe case, surgery will need to be done in order to correct the hearing loss.
