Spanish successes in the Caribbean attracted the attention of other European nations. Like Spain, France was a Catholic nation and committed to expanding Catholicism around the globe. In the early sixteenth century, it joined the race to explore the New World and exploit the resources of the Western Hemisphere. In 1534, navigator Jacques Cartier claimed northern North America for France, naming the area around the St. Lawrence River New France. Like many other explorers, Cartier made exaggerated claims about the area’s mineral wealth and was unable to send great riches back to France or establish a permanent colony.

One of the major events that affect their relationship is the seven-year war which was a result of the Austrian Habsburgs' attempt to recover the prosperous region of Silesia.

Following the aftermath of the Seven Year War, the Treaty of Paris changed the relationship between these European powers in North America.

It led to Britain giving Spain the Havana region, and transferring Guadeloupe to France.

Also, Britain recover all of Canada and the Ohio Valley took Florida from Spain.

Again, Spain got the Louisiana Territory and the western part of the Mississippi.

Hence, it can be concluded that series of events affect European power and it relationships in their exploration of North America.
