DNA in the nucleus provides the template to produce messanger RNA which provides the amino acid sequence that will be assembled by the ribosomes into protein molecules. The golgi apparatus will package the protein into the extra-cellular space.
Proteins are the complex molecules composed of polypeptides that perform a wide array of functions in the body including structural, regulatory and metabolic.
- The protein formation begins in the nucleus where the DNA (deoxy ribonucleic acid) sequence coding for the protein is transcribed into the mRNA (messenger Ribonucleic acid).
- After transcription, the mRNA undergoes post-transcriptional modifications and undergoes the process of translation in the ribosome.
- In the ribosome, the mRNA is translated into the amino acids that it codes for, and these amino acids are brought together by tRNA and then linked together to form a polypeptide.
- This newly formed protein is then transported by the rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER) to golgi apparatus inside a vesicle.
- The Golgi apparatus packages these protein and targets them to different parts of the cell.
- Proteins targeted for plasma membrane gets embedded within the bilipid layer.
The process of protein formation begins with the process of transcription and ends with the transport of the formed proteins.
