Many people use social media to stay in contact with friends and family, but the benefits of using social media extend well beyond socializing. Social media has many educational and career benefits as well. One study found that students use social media platforms to collaborate with classmates on school assignments. Schools in Illinois are even setting up their own media programs to increase motivation and offer extra-credit assignments for students to complete together.

The benefits of social media may extend beyond high school. One report found that social media helped college freshmen adjust to their new environment and make friends through social media. It may even lessen the risk of dropping out by providing students with a support system.

In addition, college graduates can network on social media to find jobs. I am here to tell you that it works! I was able to connect with a friend in San Francisco who knew of a job that would interest me. I connected with the business on social media and applied—and I now have my dream job as a writer!
